Xah Lee LiveJournal Profile Intro

2006-01

Hell-o my worldly comrades,

My name is Xah Lee, and this is my LiveJournal presence.

Y'know, in modern life, one has to keep a lot of presences. I have, for instance, the social network orkut.com presence starting about 2004-01, then i had to had multiply.com presence sometimes in 2005 just to see what a blog site is about, then i have other social networking sites presences dotnode.com and linkedin.com. And, of course have my yahoo.com presence with its chat and multitudes of online forums, and i have no doubt about 4 chat accounts of various make, such as AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Skype, and irc and google talk. Of course in terms of email accounts i'm also a elite and was quick to have a gmail presence. In terms of usage, not counting the IMs, i'm rather most proud of my wikipedia.org presence. But another presence, is that i have my own website since 1996, and since 2000-01 have my own XahLee.org domain presence. In light of the gravity and seriousness of judgement and thru evaluation according to my own considerations as well as the general public, and in terms of the information content and its quality and quantity, the one presence of them all that overshadows them all is of course XahLee.org, of which, you can find my work, my travelog weblog and diaries, my creeds, personal photos, and short bio, plus over 1200 pages of original writings on math, computing, literature, ethnology and ethology essays, and i hope can be a mind-boggling experience.

So, you see, my name is Xah Lee, and this is my LiveJournal presence.

I'm here to make acquaintances and friends, fuckmates and lovers. I have so many online presences that i don't really use one as diary except my website. Now and then i'll have a LiveJournal entry, and mainly i enjoy seeing other people's diaries in particular the unusual individuals. Often times the online relationship is shallow, but it does help broaden the scope of people you really like to know, and the chances of knowing them.

Feel free to add me to your friend list or chat to me. May we fall in love, one way or another.

with Knowledge and Love,

  Xah

The above is written for my LiveJournal.com's profile. The online presences is getting out of hand:

A Peek at Human Animal's Gathering Online

Of all these websites, the one i value the most, and uses the most often, is http://en.wikipedia.org/. It's a user-contributed encyclopedia. Not just a mere encyclopedia, but annals, news database, celebrity database, movies database, biography compendium, world's cities photo database, traveling, computer science encyclopedia, and much other things in one. I spend several hours on it everyday since 2004.

stumbleupon.com is one of the most interesting. It is a personalized link database by the force of self-organization. It shows you sites you would find valuable yet can never find it yourself.

slashdot.org is tech geeker's mecca. It is filed with unimportant news and tech geeker's drivels, but because it is updated several times a day with news submitted by the masses, every other day you'll find tidbits of interesting and valuable news related to the computing industry or sciences.

emacswiki.org is a database of emacs related info. It is helpful if you are a advanced emacs user.

livejournal.com is a online blog website. It is quite interesting, because it broadens your acquaintance horizon. From there, you can find many people you might be interested to know, which otherwise is impossible to know them in real life. Recently, i find great number of practicing artists (illustrators) thru it, and was able to see their daily lives and artworks they produce.

However, livejournal has the worse software interface possible.

Similarly, http://multiply.com/ is a blog and social networking site rolled into one. But because it has much less number of users, it's much less interesting. Basically, the power of a social networking site is proportional to the number of users it has.

Nevertheless, for some reason multply.com has a lot South Asians. And, its interface is superb. And, it has much more features than livejournal. (for example, one can upload images, sounds, and videos with free acount)

orkut.com is a rather pure social networking site started in Jan 2004. (no blogs) It has grown to 12 million users by late 2005. However, it is not very interesting. Some 70% of these people are Brazilians. It's not interesting because most people on orkut are slackers and teens and don't really have anything interesting to say. It is however useful as cultural window where one can get a glimpse of the different cultural makeups around the world, and is good if you are interested in picking up oversea chicks.

flickr.com is a photo blog recently bought by yahoo in 2005. It lets people upload their photos. I don't use it much.
